The Anji’Bide Changing Our Paths virtual art show includes the work of 16 Indigenous artists. Their art embodies the hope for opioid prevention and recovery.

Recovery and change are often described as a journey. Anishinaabe people believe the Creator places each person on a good path when they are born. This journey is guided throughout life by traditional values, beliefs, and practices. However, colonization and continued oppression have disrupted traditional ways of being. This has profoundly impacted the lives of Anishinaabe people and their ability to heal and stay centered on this good path.

Anji’bide reflects the belief that despite disruptions, people can take steps to maintain, improve, and sustain a healthy balance to support their paths. This happens in part through ongoing reflection, healing trauma, and connecting with others to promote well-being. Anji’bide embodies an Anishinaabe worldview and belief of this good path in life.

The show is a partnership between the Gizhiigin Arts Incubator and the Anji’bide grant collective (NIDA R61 DA049386).
